Dr. Benson Chuma is an avid health entrepreneur. He has over ten years’ experience working in various sectors including public and private health delivery, healthcare consulting, and health financing. After serving as a medical officer in the public sector in Kenya, he moved on to work with the global evaluation firm Abt associates under the Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project, a flagship initiative of USAID. There, Benson led the design and pilot of a health insurance Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) platform in Kenya as well as business advisory services for private insurers and providers. He currently serves as a director of Equity Afia, a chain of franchised health facilities, advising the company on strategy development and business growth.
He also owns and runs a medical centre under the same franchise. He has been involved in consultancies for international organizations such as the West African Health Organization and IFC/World Bank. Benson holds a medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Public Health Specializing in Health Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. As TC4A’s East Africa CEO based in Kenya, Benson is leading the commercial presence and partnerships in East Africa.
